LU Northern Lines - BVE2 & BVE4

This is an authentic BVE route written by
Steve Green, Keith Hazelton, Paul Jobber & Stephen Cross.
It will only work on BVE versions 2.6 or 4.x.
BVE4 version last updated May 2008
Enhanced originally for use on the 1995 and
1938 simulators at the London Transport Museum:
Replacement higher definition textures.
Smooth curves, and textured rails throughout.
Smoothly curved platforms.
Replacement signal objects.
Replacement tunnel wall linings and tunnel cables/lighting.
Error corrections.
Route Overview
The London Underground Northern Line runs
from Edgware in Middlesex North of London, southbound to Camden
Town. After calling at Camden, the lines split. One option
is to turn off to the 'City Branch' via Bank, or the other
option is to carry on forward to the 'West End' via Charing
Cross. Both lines run south to Kennington, where they merge.
At Kennington the southbound line continues to its Southern
terminus at Morden in Surrey.
The BVE route covers the whole line in several
parts:
-
From Edgware to Golders Green on the
surface, then dipping deep undeground for the journey
under the city of London. departing from Camden Town,
the journey continues through the West End (via Charing
Cross), to Kennington Southbound where the train runs
through a very tight curve known as the Kennington Loop.
-
From Kennington Northbound, forward
through the Northbound tunnels to Camden, turning off
to the Barnet Branch. The line rises to surface level,
meeting daylight at East Finchley. You'll run surface
level to the terminus at High Barnet.
All gradients, distances, positions of curves,
pointwork, stations and signalling is modelled accurately.
Signalling is, however very slightly simplified slightly
owing to limitations of BVE.
Driving
The route is supplied in two eras.
Year 2000: The line is operated
exclusively by 1995 tube stock, and although the unit has
a design speed of 62mph it is governed by LU to 60% power
until ATO is installed on the Northern. Stop the train just
beyond the green trackside sign which looks like two arrow.
The blue signs (numbered 1-6) after stops are purely
to tell you how many carriages have entered the tunnel. Useful
in emergencies for evacuation purposes.
Year 1975*: The line was operated by 1938,
1959, and by the newer 1972 Stocks. In the BVE route you drive
the heritage 1938 Stock. Stop the train at the marker displaying
the number '7'. *BVE4 version only.
Signalling
Please see the >LU Signalling<
page for details on how the underground signals work.

Important notes on running and installing v3.1
: Please read this carefully, I shall say this only once!
The route features realistic London Underground
Ltd signalling. To make the signalling work, you need some
special LU signals :-
BVE 2.6.x :
After installation of the LU Signal Changer program, go
your main BVE folder, you'll see a subfolder called "LU_Northern_Signals"
Run the signal install batch file contained within
before running the routes.
The other batch file in the folder will revert the signal
types back to your existing ones when you are finished.
BVE 4.x :
LU signal installation is automatic. You need to do nothing.
